Born in Penang, Malaysia from Scots, Malay and Australian heritage, HowardArthur Tweedie is a contemporary neo-post-impressionist realist. His passions are for colour and movement and the strange wonder of what we see – in people, places and objects.
He enjoys the never-ending challenge of attempting to master the tonal richness, subtleties and daring of oil as well as the freshness and vitality of pastel. Somehow to balance subtlety and boldness. Painting outdoors gives that extra sense of life, sometimes!
Portraits, figure and contemporary plein-air landscape painting are preferred.
Taking inspiration from artists such as Cezanne, Delacroix, Gauguin, Mitchell and Eardley, as well as many other contemporary artists, (like Lopez, Rego, Cummings, Gabori, Thaiday and Tillyer).
Early studies included Camden Town’s Working Mens College, Willoughby Workshop Arts Centre and then at the Julian Ashton Art School in Sydney, the Royal Art Society of NSW and with Studio Escalier, France. He helped co-found Artarmon Art Studios and has exhibited widely in mainly group shows in Europe, N America and Australia.
Works are held in prestigious private collections in Australia, UK, US, France and Asia.
